Since 1943, Basil Morley has been at the forefront of funeral care, carving a reputation for exemplary service in Townsville, even amid the trying times of World War II’s conclusion. Morley’s dedication and meticulous attention to detail ultimately led to the founding of Morleys Funerals in 1961.
Starting from its roots in Dearness Street, Garbutt, Townsville, Morleys Funerals fostered a reliable, quality-centric reputation that progressively grew throughout the years.
When Cyclone Althea in 1971 razed much of the original funeral parlour, resilience defined the subsequent rebuilding and refurbishing efforts, ensuring the site continued to serve Townsville’s community despite the exponential business growth.
Townsville mourned the peaceful passing of Basil Morley at 90 years old. His funeral, held on the 16th of October 2017, was poignantly timed, occurring 56 years to the day since he and Betty commenced their business.
Basil is fondly remembered by his devoted wife, Betty, and their three daughters, Lyn, Margaret, and Robyn.
Today, the third generation of the Morleys family continues to steer the Funeral Home, upholding a strong reputation within the community and across Australia for dependable and personalised service.
